Video game industry hype man Geoff Keighley is set to host the 9th annual The Game Awards on Thursday, December 8th at 7:30pm ET/4:30pm PT. Delivering a record-setting 85 million global livestreams across 40 different digital platforms last year, all eyes are on Keighley’s game awards show once again to see who takes home the hardware and what surprising game-related reveals are in store. With over 30 categories on the slate, including a new “Best Adaptation” award recognizing the “creative work that authentically adapts video game intellectual property to other popular media,” we should be in for quite the show.
Arguably the highest caliber award given at the event is the “Game of the Year” award that pits 6 top-tier games against one another to claim the crown of best game of 2022. This year’s nominees are: A Plague Tale: Requiem, Elden Ring, God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Forbidden West, Stray, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3. While all of these games and more are deserving of high praise this year, the majority of fans see this year’s contest as a two-horse race between FromSoftware’s Elden Ring and Sony Santa Monica’s God of War Ragnarök, two titans in their own right.
In addition to being available to stream the show just about anywhere where streaming happens, The Game Awards has also partnered up with IMAX allowing gamers in select cities across the world to get together to watch it live in a theater setting as well. Head here to check out the full list of categories, respective nominees, and to place your votes before December 8th.
