Outside of the headlining Summer Game Fest Kickoff and Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, there were a slew of other shows that took place from Netflix’s Geeked Week to the Tribeca Games Festival to Devolver Digital’s always unique show to the next most notable showcase with Capcom and beyond. It truly feels like there has never been a better time to be a gamer with unique ideas and graphical fidelity continuing to test new limits and accessibility continuing to grow with the strengthening of cloud-based infrastructure.
Capcom’s showcase continued to satiate our desire for games both new and old with the reveal of new Resident Evil 4 Remake gameplay and the announcement of full ports of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 7 now available for Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 consoles. Capcom was far from done though as they also gave a us a new look at Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, the latest expansion in their award-winning Monster Hunter series, with a playable demo out this week and the full expansion set to release later this month. Exoprimal also received a gameplay showing with a closed network test promised for “sometime in the future”. Last, but far from least, Capcom teased an announcement of an announcement for their Dragon’s Dogma franchise to celebrate its 10-year anniversary. That announcement culminated in the reveal of Dragon’s Dogma II being in development.
Over the course of the week and in the posts above, we have highlighted a number of indie games, but here are a few more that caught our attention and are worth keeping an eye on:
- The Plucky Squire
- High on Life
- A Plague Tale: Requiem (shown in multiple showcases this week)
- Flintlock
- Ereban: Shadow Legacy
- The Last Case of Benedict Fox
- Cocoon
While a number of notable publishers from Take Two Interactive to Ubisoft to Nintendo did not have a large presence during the festivities this week, we were still privy to a large number of new game announcements and reveals from AAA titles to indie heartthrobs. With the future of gaming looking brighter than ever and our backlogs already overflowing, we now look towards the end of June for the next rumored Nintendo Direct and PlayStation State of Play. Games, games, and more games.
