According to GIant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb, Electronic Arts (EA) is publishing an open world game featuring Marvel’s Black Panther. “Project Rainier,” the working title for the Black Panther game, is reportedly in development with a new studio that is led by Kevin Stephens, former head of Monolith Productions.
The new game will mark the first standalone game for the Wakandan superhero as Black Panther has already made an appearance in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 and Marvel’s Avengers. The game is described by Gurbb as a “big open world Black Panther game” where the player will assume the role of the superhero after the previous Black Panther dies.
EA is looking to continue its success from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and double down on single player games, including the highly anticipated sequel to Fallen Order, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
The game leak from Grubb comes days after the highly anticipated official trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con. The Black Panther franchise was previously put on hold following the passing of Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman.
