Gaming conventions took a hit over the past several years due to the ongoing pandemic. For Blizzard Entertainment’s BlizzCon, it was a combination of the pandemic, toxic work environment, and legal troubles that saw the cancellation of their iconic gaming convention. In 2023, Blizzard Entertainment is committed to bringing back its in-person BlizzCon.

In a statement to the Los Angeles Times, Blizzard President Mike Ybarra said, “We previously announced we’re taking a pause on BlizzCon while we reimagine it for the future, but do want to return to a live event that enables us to celebrate the community. We recently hired a new leader of BlizzCon, April McKee, who is hard at work on that plan…we are committed to bringing back BlizzCon in 2023.”

The most recent in-person version of BlizzCon came in 2019. BlizzCon 2020 and 2021 were canceled due to the pandemic; however Blizzard did hold a virtual version of BlizzCon in 2021. With the world slowly adjusting to the new normal, BlizzCon joins E3 as the two major gaming conventions set to return in 2023.

While there is no word on when Blizzard is looking at holding the 2023 BlizzCon, historically it has been held between October and November.
