Eyes up, Guardians! The first look at what’s to come in the final chapter of the Light and Darkness Saga has officially been revealed along with loads of details of what all lies ahead for the world of Destiny 2. In its Destiny 2 Showcase, Bungie gave players their initial taste of all the exciting things that the team has been hard at work on. Of course the most excitement was around the big expansion that is coming in February 2024, but almost as pressing were the details of what comes next for Destiny after The Final Shape. After all, the expansion concludes the first full saga of the game and everything that has been building for the past 10 years since our Guardians were first resurrected. So just how will the team wrap it up?

In The Final Shape, Guardians will finally head inside the Traveler and explore an area called The Pale Heart. Here Guardians will be treated to familiar locales from the game’s history and all their allies will be along for the ride. It was already revealed that Cayde-6 would be returning (Hurray, Nathan Fillion!) and he’s reunited with the rest of the Vanguard and all the other allies who have joined the fight along the way. It will be a linear world at first as Bungie wants players to focus on the campaign to get started. Once the campaign is completed, that’s when the new world will really open up. A new Dungeon and Raid will give players the ultimate resolution to the story and close the Light and Darkness Saga for good.

While that might be enough to get everyone excited for what’s to come, that was not the end of the showcase by any means. Besides the story and conclusions to come, Bungie had a lot to share about gameplay changes and additions headed to the game. Each class will be getting a new Super: a new Solar Super for Warlocks, a new Arc Super for Hunters, and a new Void Super for Titans (Hello, Giant Void Axes!). Along with that, 2 new weapon subtypes are on their way as well. Guardians can get Auto Rifles that heal allies or damage enemies and find hand cannons that shoot miniature rockets rather than bullets, which sounds awesome. A Fireteam Finder feature is coming as well that will make it incredibly simple for Guardians to find like-minded teammates and take on those challenges that require a full squad to really tackle.

The other major aspect of the show was the reveal of the newest and current season of Destiny 2, Season of the Witch. Season of the Witch is focused on the Hive enemy type and has Guardians harnessing Hive magic. It also introduces a deck building mechanic as part of its Seasonal Activities that looks to be pretty fascinating. Guardians will be able to tackle Timeline Reflections that act as condensed story missions to revisit story beats that brought the world to the place it is now. It’s a great way for new or long dormant Guardians to get back into the fold and join in on the fun. No Hive content would be complete without the newest reprised Raid, Crota’s End! The second ever raid in the first Destiny, Crota’s End is a fan favorite and sure to be that way again with whatever changes Bungie has thrown in to give players a new but familiar challenge.

The future of Destiny 2 is already mapped out as well. After The Final Shape, Destiny 2 is moving to Episodes instead of seasons. These episodes will be broken up into three 6 week Acts with additional content released in each Act that is themed around each episode. Each year will have 3 Episodes moving forward. It’s an exciting road map that shows Destiny 2 isn’t going anywhere and the team will continue to add to the world. Guardians have a lot of amazing things to dive into now, coming in February, and into the years beyond. The Final Shape launches on February 27, 2024.
