Eyes up, Guardians! The latest Destiny 2 showcase was this week and it brought mountains of treasure for all guardians, new and old. From our first look at the upcoming expansion, Lightfall, to the reveal of the new season that kicked off right after the showcase, Bungie brought all the info you could possibly want. Let’s dive into it.
With a breathtaking trailer, Bungie revealed Lightfall in all its glory to the clamoring masses of guardians. When I say breathtaking, I really mean that. The Lightfall trailer reveals a sprawling metropolis that is dripping in vibrant colors. This is the reveal of Lightfall’s setting: Neomuna on Neptune. Hidden until now, Neomuna is a thriving city that survived the Collapse unscathed. Unfortunately for it, Emperor Calus and his Shadow Legion is bringing the second Collapse right to the city center. It’s up to the Guardians to join forces with the cloud striders and master a new darkness subclass called “strand”. It’s going to be a wild ride. But until then…
It’s time to take to the Sea of Stars and become pirates! Season 18 is the Season of Plunder and Destiny 2 is going all in on the pirate theme. Our old foe Eramis has broken free of her icy prison and is looking to rebuild her crew and find dark artifacts to power her up. Guardians will form a crew of their own with Drifter, Mythrax, Spider and more! Take part in the new 6 player activity “Ketch Crash”, the 3-player matchmade expedition, and hunt for pirate hideouts filled with treasure and dark artifacts.
If the next expansion and the new season still aren’t enough for you, I have good news. Also revealed in the showcase was Arc 3.0. The last of the original 3 subclasses has now been upgraded with new twists and the same level of customization we’ve had with Void and Solar. Bungie also revealed that the “King’s Fall” raid from The Taken King is coming back and will be free for all players. They promise some new twists and secrets in the classic raid that should make guardians new and old excited to jump in. Destiny 2 is also now live on the Epic Games Store! If you download it on the platform in the next week, you can get the 30th anniversary content for free as well. You’ll also see Destiny 2 invading Fall Guys and Fortnite in the form of skins. Fortnite is also getting a Destiny 2 map and Control game mode to play on it. Bungie wrapped up the showcase with the promise that expansion content will never sunset again. That means campaigns and locations from any expansion will stick around, though seasonal content will be vaulted with each new expansion.
Bungie brought out the big cannons for this showcase and they delivered. Players will be plundering all the treasures revealed to them for months to come. Season 18 is live now and Lightfall launches February 28, 2023. Now is the time to explore the stars and prepare for the greatest threat ever to come to the Milky Way.
