Disney and Marvel are set to host their first-ever games showcase in just a few weeks. As part of Disney’s D23 Expo, the ground-breaking showcase will take place on September 9th, promising updates on Marvel’s Midnight Suns, Skydance New Media’s Marvel ensemble game, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and Disney Dreamlight Valley. In addition to these teased appearances, the press release also states that fans can expect some “all-new announcements” too.
After shutting down the heavy majority of its internal game development studios, Disney has leaned heavily into licensing their IPs to other game developers. While there have been a few target misses, delays, and cancellations, the strategy has worked quite well overall. A constant flow of video games will eventually go hand-in-hand with the onslaught of tv shows and movies from the Marvel and Star Wars camps among others.
At this time we are not aware of what the “all-new announcements” will be, but we have heard whispers of a few unannounced superhero games in development, in addition to an Encanto game (…hopefully they don’t talk about Bruno). There are other revealed games such as Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 & Wolverine, Machine Games’ Indiana Jones, Supermassive’s Star Wars RPG, Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Second Dinner’s Marvel SNAP, and more that could also make appearances with new trailers or information as well.
To learn more be sure to tune into the showcase on Disney’s Twitch, Twitter, YouTube, or Facebook page at 4pm ET/1pm PT on Friday, September 9th.
