There were no tricks, only treats coming from Electronic Arts’ press release on October 31st announcing a three game collaboration with Marvel. In the partnership, EA aims to develop three original stories set within the ever-expanding Marvel Universe.
Jay Ong, Executive Vice President at Marvel Games, went on to say that Marvel and EA share the same mission, stating, “At Marvel, we strive to find best-in-class teams who can take our characters on heroic journeys in ways they haven’t before and collaborating with Electronic Arts will help us achieve that.” Laura Miele, COO at EA, shared an equally enthusiastic statement, “We have been long-time fans of Marvel and their impressive leadership, so this is a remarkable moment for our developers as well as our players and fans. We look forward to welcoming Marvel into the EA family of creators and know this collaboration will produce exceptional experiences for our players.”
Up first is the man in the iron suit himself, Iron Man. The new Iron Man game is listed as a single player, third-person, action-adventure game that is being produced by the team at Motive Studios led by Olivier Proulx, the senior producer of Marvel’s 2021 Guardians of the Galaxy video game. As of now, the plans around the main character for the second and third games have yet to be announced.
EA looks to be doubling down on the action-adventure genre of games following the wildly popular and successful Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order title that took the gaming world by storm. For a publisher known more for their sports titles, gamers can be cautiously optimistic that EA can continue to build on the success from Jedi Fallen Order and translate that into their new venture with Marvel. As of now, there is no timetable for when the Iron Man game will be released.
