The League Championship Series (LCS) has a new name at the top and it turns out that sometimes it does take a genius (or 5 of them) to pull it off. That’s right, Evil Geniuses (EG) completed their miracle run through the lower bracket and swept the defending champs to take their first crown. And if that wasn’t enough, EG also earned the right to represent the LCS at the upcoming Mid-Season Invitational!

After a rough 3-2 loss to Team Liquid in the upper bracket, EG buckled down and went on an insane win streak that started with a 3-1 win over FlyQuest. What followed was something that not even the most brilliant of masterminds would have predicted. EG swept 3 championship organizations in a row knocking off Cloud9, Team Liquid, and 100 Thieves all 3-0.

Evil Geniuses came into the split with high expectations thanks to a couple young stars in jojopyun and Danny, along with some battle-tested veterans in Inspired, Vulcan, and Impact. Even after a 4th place finish in the regular season, this was a roster that was capable of something incredible. Thankfully, they treated us to just such a feat.

You can watch Evil Geniuses compete in MSI starting on May 10th to see how they stack up against the best teams from League of Legends’ other regional leagues and see if they can defend their title in the LCS Summer Split starting June 18th.
