A new video from WB Games Montreal showcasing Gotham Knights just dropped, giving us a 13-minute look at combat for Nightwing and Red Hood. Gotham Knights is an open-world action RPG set in Gotham City after Batman is seemingly killed in an explosion. It’s up to the bat family to protect Gotham and save it from the Court of Owls, a very old secret organization made up of Gotham’s wealthiest families. Players get to choose from Nightwing, Red Hood, Batgirl, and Robin to play as. Each character will have his/her own fighting style and kit and we finally got an extended look at two of the four. You can check out the video on the WB Games’ YouTube channel here.

With that excitement came a news release that for some fans certainly felt like a punch from the Dark Knight himself, as the game is no longer coming to last generation consoles. That means no Xbox One or PS4 versions. This might not be a surprise, except that the game was originally announced as a cross-generation title back in 2020. It appears that the various delays and challenges have made that promise too difficult to follow through on. This is not the first time we’ve seen challenges with releasing a game on both old and new platforms. Just look at all the issues surrounding Cyberpunk 2077 and it’s famous incompatibility with last-gen hardware despite being released for them while the next-gen update was still in development.

Gotham Knights is the successor to the Batman Arkham games and is set to release on October 25 of this year for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
