While the post-apocalyptic theme is nothing new, we sure have been spoiled with some amazing post-apocalyptic shows over the years, and most recently with HBO’s take on The Last Of Us. Now our attention turns to Amazon as they have released a new trailer for their upcoming post-apocalyptic show based on a very popular Bethesda Game Studios gaming franchise, Fallout. The two and a half minute trailer has ramped up the hype as Amazon let viewers take a good long look into the live action show, confirming many of the same aesthetics from the game have been recreated.
Directed by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy (HBO’s Westworld), the Fallout series will focus on the story of “haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have,” as outlined in Amazon’s official release. The Fallout series will be based in a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles around the same time as the games, 219 years after the Great War, in the year 2296 (only nine years after Fallout 4).
One major fear of the population that have fallen in love with the game is how liberal Nolan and Joy may be with their interpretation of the beloved gaming series. Todd Howard, Director and Executive Producer of Bethesda, states he has had “a lot of conversations over the style of humor, the level of violence, and the style of violence,” that would be included in the tv adaptation. Howard is listed as an advisor to the series and has also stated that the series will be “canon” to the overall Fallout universe.
With the recent SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild of America strikes over, Fallout on Amazon Prime Video is scheduled to debut on April 12, 2024 with Amazon reassuring viewers of an on-time premiere with no delays.
