League Championship Series (LCS) fans got their first look at the mockumentary series Players coming to Paramount+ on June 16th. The series follows a fake competitive League of Legends (LoL) team as they struggle to win their first league championship. The team of veterans brings in a hotshot rookie to help push them across the finish line, but naturally tempers flare and egos clash. Will the veteran “Creamcheese” finally reach his goal? Can the rookie “Organizm” be a team player and grow into the greatest player of all time? Watch the trailer here and tune in to find out.

The show focuses on League of Legends: a very real, very successful, and very competitive multiplayer video game with a massive following. Riot Games, who owns League of Legends, is not officially involved in the project, but it clearly has the company’s blessing. As seen in the trailer, official assets from the LoL esports scene are used throughout the show with some on-screen talent from Riot Games making appearances as well.

The tone of the show looks to strike a balance between comedy, drama, and documentary. There will be plenty of laughs, be it from jokes or situational comedy. The drama comes from the individual struggles and team challenges, something that should resonate with everyone. While the documentary side gives a surprisingly real and accurate look at what life is like for esports professionals.

So whether you’re a diehard League of Legends fan, a fan of competition, or just a fan of comedy, this show will be for you. Who knows? You just might find your next favorite pastime.
