Epic Games decided to infuse their flagship title Fortnite with a nostalgic twist this month, announcing their latest season “Fortnite OG,” and drawing in record player numbers as a result. Each major update during the season will “bring a different phase of battle royale’s past” and it’s safe to say that Phase 1 has been a huge hit to say the least.
With the return of fan-favorites such as the notorious area of Tilted Towers and the return of much-loved and much-hated weapons in the classic assault rifle, pump shotgun, hunting rifle, boogie bomb, and more, fans are flocking back to the multiplayer title in record droves. According to Circana, 38% of all active Xbox players and 33% of all active PlayStation players dove into the title on Friday, November 3rd, marking its highest tracked total since June 2020. Epic also put out an official statement confirming that November 3rd was Fortnite’s biggest day on record, pulling in over 44.7 million players across all platforms. Those 44.7M also put in a combined whopping 102 million hours of play as well.
While Fortnite OG won’t be around for long, it does still have a lot more fun, nostalgic content to come in the weeks ahead. On November 9th, Loot Lake will be overcome with darkness, bringing with it the double barrel shotgun, clinger, six shooter, quadcrasher, mounted turret, chiller trap, the dreaded port-a-fort, and more. November 16th’s update will bring more favorites from Season 7 and Season 8, while November 23rd’s will be all about Season 9 and X. Unless plans change, Fortnite OG will only last one month in length, so make sure to jump in before the content heads back to the vault once again. Last, but not least…remember to thank the bus driver!
