Spring training is approaching and with that, the team at San Diego Studios have announced the cover athlete for MLB the Show 23: Miami Marlins’ second baseman and center fielder Jazz Chisholm Jr.
“It’s something I always dreamed of from when I was a kid,” Chisholm said in a live stream on MLB’s YouTube channel. “I always wanted to be [on the cover of a video game], but I never thought it would become a reality as quick as it has.”
Making his big league debut in 2020, Chisholm, an avid player of MLB the Show, becomes the first Bahamian-born athlete to be placed on the cover of any sports video game. He follows last year’s cover athlete, Angels dual-threat Shohei Ohtani, and joins the company of some of baseball’s greatest athletes like David Ortiz, David Wright, Ryan Howard, Dustin Pedroia, Joe Mauer, Adrián González, Andrew McCutchen, Miguel Cabrera, Yasiel Puig, and Josh Donaldson to grace the cover of MLB the Show.
While his 34 home runs, 37 stolen bases, and making the All-Star team in 2022 are big accomplishments, he made a name for himself through his flair and personality, with things like his signature Eurostep home run celebration already making its way into youth leagues and the hearts of baseball fans all over the world.
San Diego Studios also announced that “The Captain” Derek Jeter will be on the cover of the collector’s edition of the game. MLB the Show 23 releases on March 28th on the PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series S/X, and Nintendo Switch. For Xbox Game Pass subscribers, MLB the Show 23 will be on Game Pass on day one for the third year in a row.
