It’s safe to say the biggest moment of the night may not have been Baldur’s Gate 3 winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards, but rather legendary game creator Hideo Kojima announcing his latest project, OD, on the Xbox platform along with producer and comedian Jordan Peele.

“OD,” described by Kojima as “an immersive and totally new style of game” that will explore “what it means to OD on fear.” The legendary game creator has made a career off pushing limits and exploring gaming styles. Peele will be one of the storytellers involved with the OD project. Peele noted his love and adoration of Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid 2 game as a reason he wanted to be a part of the project.

Kojima is the creator of one of the most successful gaming franchises, Metal Gear, that spans over several console generations. Metal Gear Solid (PlayStation, 1998) was credited with jump starting and popularizing the stealth game genre, as well as the use of in-game cinematics, creating an interactive movie-like experience. Kojima’s recent game, Death Stranding, was praised for an in-depth plot that predicted social phenomena like echo chambers and fake news. Death Stranding won Best Game Direction, Best Score, and Best Performance at The Game Awards in 2019.

OD will star Sophia Lillis (“Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves”), Hunter Schaffer (“Euphoria,” “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes”) and Udo Kier (“Hunters,” “Flesh for Frankenstein,” “Suspiria”). There is no word on a release date and the game is believed to be in the early stages of development.
