Coming off the incredible launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo announced another wave of games coming to the Switch in their 40-minute Nintendo Direct that was presented on Wednesday, June 21st. From remakes, to new trailers, and yes, even a new Mario game, the Direct was packed with tons of news that will make Switch owners happy.
First, an announcement that was released at the Summer Games Fest show, the popular Metal Gear Solid vol.1 collection, was confirmed to be coming to the Switch on October 24, 2023. The collection includes Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, as well as Snake’s Revenge. Also coming in this amazing collection is a screenplay book with in-game text of each game along with a master book detailing the complete story and characters in them.
Everyone’s favorite Mario character is getting a new game as well! WarioWare: Move It! is set to be released on November 6, 2023. Up to four players will have to move around and compete in hundreds of games that involve shaking, dancing, posing, and more.
Viewers were treated to a new look at the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Hidden Treasure of Area Zero expansion. Nintendo also confirmed the next two expansions will be coming in Fall 2023 (The Teal Mask) and Winter 2023 (The Indigo Disk).
The biggest announcement was that of a new Mario game. Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be released on October 20, 2023. The all new 2D side scroller will still have the same overall feel as the classic Mario side scrollers, but will have quirky additions called Wonder Flowers that will trigger in-game moments that will change the game like witnessing the pipes will come alive and even getting to play as a giant spiky ball. Players can choose to play as Mario, Luigi, Toad, Princess Daisy, and Yoshi (the only correct choice!).
From remakes to new releases, the June Nintendo Direct delivered the Nintendo community a much needed update on what’s to come in the second half of 2023 and more! Check out the Nintendo Direct to see all the announcements of things to come in 2023!
