Nintendo continued its efforts to grow content in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe this week with the release of Wave 3 of the Booster Course Pass. That means 2 new cups (or 8 new tracks) are now available for all modes. These courses are a mix of courses from various Mario Kart games from the GameBoy Advance, the 3DS, and even Mario Kart Tour for mobile to name a few. It’s yet another addition to a game that has been out for quite some time that Nintendo continues to service.
Alongside Wave 3, Nintendo also released a free update for all Mario Kart 8 Deluxe owners that introduced a Custom Items feature to VS Races and some online modes. That means you can race your friends in all those crazy, chaotic scenarios you’ve imagined. Want everyone to be a Bullet Bill all the time? Want Blue Shells constantly buzzing about? Should the entire course be covered in bananas? That is all entirely up to you and your friends to figure out! This new feature adds new life to the party game aspect that has been the secret to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s continued success. Fans simply can’t get enough of racing as their favorite characters and tormenting their friends and family at the same time.
The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Buster Course Pass is available to players several different ways. The most direct option is to simply purchase the pass for $24.99. It includes the 3 waves that have been released already and 3 more waves to come through 2023. The other option is to have an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass membership. The DLC is included along with that subscription and is available to access at any time. The Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass membership also comes with access to Sega Genesis and Nintendo 64 games available on demand just like the NES and SNES games that come with the standard Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
