during the FIFA Ballon d'Or Gala 2015 at the Kongresshaus on January 11, 2016 in Zurich, Switzerland.

Not one, not two, not three, not four.

Messi won his fifth Ballon d’Or (Golden Ball) on Monday. This award is given out by FIFA to the male soccer player considered to have performed the best in the past year. He won with 41.33 percent of the vote from coaches, captains, and journalists worldwide. Christiano Ronaldo and Neymar were behind him, but really there was not much of an argument. No one has been more valuable to his team than Messi.

This past season, Messi helped lead Barcelona to a UEFA Champions League title, La Liga title, and Copa del Rey title in the 2014-2015 season. He scored 34 goals in 33 appearances for Barcelona, which is quite an accomplishment.

Having won five Ballon d’Or’s in his career puts Messi in a league of his own. He truly is one of the greatest players, if not the greatest player, of our time!
