Ready up, soldiers! What is most likely to be the best-selling Call of Duty game of all-time got a proper reveal this week with a brand new trailer hitting the interwebs on June 8th. While the new trailer still left fans of the franchise with a lot of questions in mind, it did provide a plethora of sneak peeks all the same. Fans of the Modern Warfare series should have instantly recognized the returning cast of Captain Price, “Gaz”, “Soap”, and “Ghost”, plus a split-second look at a revamped version of beloved Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 map “Highrise”. But wait there’s more! As part of Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest Kickoff event, Modern Warfare 2 gave us our first look at some gameplay of the “Dark Water” campaign level as well.
In addition to the trailers, we also found out that the Call of Duty franchise will be making its long-awaited return to Steam for the first time since 2017. Call of Duty games had become exclusive to the Battle.net platform in recent years, but it seems that trend is changing as the franchise continues forward. Pre-orders are now live with two editions announced so far. The first edition is a “Cross-Gen bundle” which includes both last-gen and current-gen versions of the game for Xbox and PlayStation players (for PC players there is only the current-gen version). The second edition available for preorder is the “Vault Edition” which in addition to the game also includes: the Ghost Legacy pack, Red Team 141 Operator pack, FJX Cinder Weapon Vault, a battle pass with 50 tier skips, and some double xp tokens.
It was also confirmed this week that Modern Warfare 2 will be getting a beta across all platforms later this year. PlayStation players will have five days early access to the beta via a standing agreement with Activision through the next couple Call of Duty titles. There will be a lot more Modern Warfare 2 to talk about this Summer, as it is only a matter of time before Warzone 2 details start to pop up as well. Modern Warfare 2 is set to launch on October 28, 2022.
