After rumors spread across the internet, it has finally been confirmed! On January 20, Monster Hunter Rise is officially coming to Xbox and PlayStation consoles. Even more exciting, it is launching Day 1 on Game Pass for console, PC, and cloud! Originally launching on the Switch back in 2021, fans of the series have been hoping for it to make an appearance elsewhere. It did come to PC earlier this year, but this recent console and Game Pass news really brings it to another level entirely. And it’s not just the current generation consoles of the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, the game will also be on Xbox One and PS4.
Monster Hunter Rise takes the concept of the Monster Hunter series and lifts it to new heights, literally! The game features the usual mechanics of hunting monsters with your choice of 13 different weapon types and taking the materials retrieved from your hunts to craft better weapons and armor. Where Monster Hunter Rise raises the stakes is in the addition of Wirebugs. Wirebugs give you the ability to ziparound the environment, climb walls, get above an enemy for a devastating combo, or even ride a monster temporarily to do some damage. It’s a neat mechanic that really elevates the game without taking away what fans love about the series.
Let’s come back to the ground and dig into the technical details a little bit. The game will boast 4K resolution up to 60 FPS or 1080P resolution with up to 120 FPS on the Xbox Series X and PS5 along with 3D audio. The PS5 version will have DualSense haptic feedback for ranged and shielded weapons. The Sunbreak expansion that’s currently available on Steam and Switch will make its way to these new platforms sometime in the Spring. In the one bit of bad news, cross-play and cross-save are not currently planned for the Xbox and PlayStation versions. So if you’ve already been hunting and grinding on Switch or Steam, you won’t get to carry any of that progress over.
