It was a great week for Mass Effect fans as the annual N7 Day celebration brought surprises and fun. N7 Day is celebrated every year on November 7th by Bioware and fans of the Mass Effect franchise, in honor of the in-game designation of N7 that Commander Shepard holds. N7 Day always brings about new merchandise, new art, and usually a new tease at what’s next for the franchise. This year was no exception with a puzzle, a trailer with a likely new character, and a new poster.

These teases were filled with information for fans who took a closer look, but still no new information about Commander Shepard or a release timeframe. The puzzle contained binary code and excerpts of audio transmissions. The binary code spelled the word ‘Epsilon’ which is the fifth letter of the Greek alphabet which corresponds with the next game being the fifth in the series. The quote snippets also feature a quote from Liara and a reference to Andromeda that is likely a distress call.

The trailer was a short 30 seconds, but it was done in engine and showed what looks like a new character in an N7 jacket with a helmet and gloves on to reveal no details about them. It’s just a simple walk sequence but it was enough to get the internet buzzing about who it could be. Bioware released a full art character poster that had some additional details in the image. The image showed a nightclub like Afterlife or Flux with lots of different species in it. Besides all the ones you expect, we also see a Geth and an Angara so we know Andromeda species are involved. It’s possible there could be more hidden messages or details that fans will be hunting for until the next time Bioware offers some new information.

The next Mass Effect game was originally revealed back in 2020 when Bioware stated that a small team of Mass Effect veterans had begun to flesh out what the next game could look like. Despite teases every year since, there is little that is actually known about the next game. Bioware has confirmed that the game will serve as a sequel to both Mass Effect 3 and Mass Effect Andromeda but there is no word on which characters will be returning. The game seems to be years away at this point with Bioware currently focused on Dragon Age Dreadwolf as its next major release. Fans will just have to live off of snippets of information and replaying Mass Effect 2 for the 50th time until the day comes for a full reveal.
