Summer Game Fest has officially begun with some exciting reveals and extended looks at games that are coming soon. That hasn’t stopped folks from looking ahead to events to come, events like Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. Gamescom is an in-person and online gaming festival hosted in Germany every year. Lots of developers come out to show off their latest projects and interact with fans and other colleagues in the industry. It always brings with it some excitement, some surprises, and a lot of chances for fans to interact with and discover new games.

Not everyone is joining in on the fun this year though. Nintendo confirmed to the German outlet Games Wirtschaff that they are not appearing at the show this year. Nintendo didn’t give a specific reason for their absence, but they did assure fans that they would still be present at other events in Germany this year.

Nintendo has some big titles in development that fans are eager to see more of. Some of those games are: Mario Strikers: Battle League, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Splatoon 3, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It’s a safe bet that Nintendo will have some sort of high-profile event themselves to show off their Fall/Holiday releases and update fans on the franchises they care about. Expect a Nintendo Direct to happen sometime in the same window as Gamescom or something shortly after.
