Avengers! Assemble… your deck. Marvel, Nuverse, and Second Dinner revealed their new card battling game: MARVEL SNAP. Second Dinner is the studio founded by Ben Brode, former Hearthstone director, and Hamilton Chu, also formerly of Blizzard Entertainment; alongside a few other former Hearthstone team members that joined them on their new adventure. The reveal trailer definitely shows some of the game’s Hearthstone roots and inspiration, but this is not Hearthstone reskinned with Marvel characters. This is a whole new game with a whole new direction.
Marvel Snap is a card game where players make their moves simultaneously. Games are designed to last about 3 minutes. Each game takes place in 3 of 50+ locations across the Marvel universe that each have a strategic impact on your moves. Add in the 150+ character and variant cards and a 12 card cap on each player’s deck; you’ve got a recipe for unique games almost every time. And as you’d expect, there will be daily, weekly, and monthly updates to the game. You can expect new characters, new variants, new locations, new challenges, and who knows what else.
The very unique addition to this game is the “snap” mechanic. Players can “snap” to raise the stakes. Is the player that confident or are they bluffing? While it’s not exactly clear how this mechanic will impact games, it’s a cool way to add an extra mind game into the strategic equation.
Marvel Snap is coming to mobile first, but Second Dinner is hoping to have PC early access ready to go alongside its mobile launch. If that’s not exciting enough, you can sign up for a shot at the beta that’s happening on Android right now as well.
