Overwatch is hoping to once again occupy the minds of players both past and present, while also drawing new ones in with its latest update “Invasion.” Invasion brings with it a brand-new support hero, long-awaited story missions to expand the game’s lore, a new PvP mode, and of course fresh cosmetics galore. The question is…”is it too little too late?”

New Hero: Illari joins the roster as the newest support hero. Channeling the power of the sun, Illari plays as a damage heavy support, inflicting enemies with solar damage at long range, while also focusing on healing teammates around her. Armed with a kit that includes some powerful damage and healing, coupled with a knock back ability and an ultimate that leaves enemies vulnerable to explosive damage, Illari is guaranteed to have a bright future on the roster.

Invasion Story Missions: Well overdue, players can finally get their hands on more PvE content! Without giving too much away, the story missions revolve around trying to stop Null Sector, a rogue Omnic group that has begun attacking major cities around the world. Deploy alongside 3 other players and work together to hold back the onslaught.

New Mode: Flashpoint joins the playlist as the latest core game mode in Overwatch 2. The two newest maps Suravasa and New Junk City are home to the Flashpoint game type, which sees randomized control points pop up across the map one-by-one. As a flashpoint is captured, the next will immediately pop up [very similar to ‘King of the Hill’ for our seasoned gamers out there]. The first team to capture 3 will win the match.

Since Overwatch 2’s launch on Steam last week, it has amassed over 100,000 reviews with 91% of them rating the game negatively. It is worth noting that around two-thirds of the negative reviews are from gamers in China, a country where the game is not currently playable due to an ongoing publishing dispute between Activision and NetEase. Regardless, Blizzard is hoping that its latest Invasion update will bring some positivity back into the fold – as Overwatch hero Winston once said, “The world could always use more heroes.”
