Ahoy, mateys! It’s been quite a long journey, but Ubisoft’s live-service pirate game Skull and Bones finally has a release date on the horizon. In this week’s Ubisoft Forward, the developer showed off a shiny new cinematic, new gameplay footage, and more as they re-introduced their pirate title to a sea of gamers.

Skull and Bones takes place during the 17th century, a time period typically coined as the “Golden Age of Piracy”, in a fictional version of the Indian Ocean. Players will start off small as they traverse not only the raging currents of water, but those of society as well. Alongside building powerful ships and hearty crews, players will be tasked with building their reputations through infamy. Increased infamy can be obtained by completing contracts, treasure hunting, gathering resources, and of course taking down rival fleets. As a pirate’s infamy grows they’ll work their way from being an outcast to a kingpin captain of the pirating world.

Additionally, Ubisoft has announced that the game will support both online co-op and PvP experiences at launch with “ambitious” post-launch support being planned as well. Added content will include new activities, stories, and challenges for free, as well as further cosmetic customization for a price to help support the live service aspect of the game.

While it’s no secret that the game itself has been through a mutiny of sorts in terms of troubled development since its introduction on the E3 stage in 2017, it finally looks ready to leave the port of development. So round up your crew and get ready to set sail when this one hits stores later this year on November 8th.
