The highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 Spider-Man and 2020 Spider-Man: Miles Morales games finally received a gameplay trailer in last week’s PlayStation Showcase. Developed by Insomniac Games, the video features more than 10 minutes of gameplay, showcasing both Peter Parker and Miles Morales in-game. Players will switch between both characters throughout to complete the storyline that takes place on Earth-1048.
Kraven the Hunter makes his debut as the main bad guy, but the game will feature other bad guys from the Spider-Man universe, including a symbiote threat. The story of the game focuses on Kraven and his followers going after Dr. Curt Connors, commonly referred to as “The Lizard.” While the trailer does not show how Peter Parker gains the symbiotic powers, viewers do get to see Parker’s all new fight mechanics and symbiotic abilities.
Meanwhile for Miles Morales, we see the superhero dawn a new flight suit (Web Wing) that allows either Spider-Man to fly through wind tunnels between buildings to soar across the skies of Manhattan at all new speeds. Morales also has a few new tricks up his sleeves, allowing the stealthy Spider-Man even more weapons in his arsenal that will allow him to sneak around and give him the element of surprise. Both Spider-Man characters will feature a skill tree, an all-new feature to help upgrade and unlock new skills and technology to help stop Kraven.
Easily the highlight of the PlayStation Showcase, Spider-Man 2 will be released in late 2023 only on the PlayStation 5 console. With Sony’s recent history, it may be safe to assume that Spider-Man 2 may come to PC stores in the future. The hype around this successful Spider-Man game series from Insomniac Games has amassed almost 20 million views on the trailer videos on YouTube alone.
