If you’ve ever wished that your favorite Steam game would come to Nintendo Switch, I have good news and bad news. Valve revealed the Steam Deck, a handheld gaming PC that looks a lot like the Switch that you can play all those wonderful Steam games on, just last week. The bad news is, like all other new hardware lately, you’re going to be waiting awhile.

They Never Learn: On Friday, Valve went live with preorders for the Steam Deck and it went as well as you would expect. Steam’s store was no match for the onslaught of excited fans and potential scalpers, with the site doing everything from crashing completely to throwing weird errors. One anti-scalper measure that was put in place was to limit orders to accounts that had made a Steam purchase before June 2021, essentially eliminating newly created bot accounts. That measure kept some accounts that are years old from accessing preorders with no explanation, though really the cause is obvious. Even Steam’s servers are no match for the internet when it comes down to it.

Preorders are still available on Steam, though you can expect to wait until at least Q2 2022 for the lower tier models and Q3 2022 for the highest tier.
