Fans waiting to play the role of Captain Boomerang taking down the Green Lantern just got some bad news. That’s right, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League from Rocksteady Games has been delayed yet again. At least that’s according to Jason Schreier and Bloomberg. Jason tends to have reliably good scoops so bet on this one being a fact. While this isn’t the first delay for the game, it carries more weight as the most recent release date of May 26th was only a couple months away and the game was just shown off at a Sony State of Play.

That same State of Play may be part of the reason for this delay. Fans were a little disappointed not only in what they saw but especially so in what they learned in a Q&A following the State of Play. Rocksteady confirmed that the game is a live service game that will require an internet connection at all times, even when playing the main story solo. This was very disappointing, especially when combined with the battle pass, cosmetics system, and other loot mechanics. A delay like this, pushing later into 2023, won’t be a delay to change those core gameplay tenants, but it will allow the team to smooth out any bugs or issues that could wreck early sales from a now-skeptical fanbase.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been a pretty anticipated title since it was announced. The game was initially set for a launch in 2022 but was pushed to the now moving May 26, 2023 release date. The game lets players control one of four members of the Suicide Squad (Deadshot, Harley Quinn, King Shark, and Captain Boomerang) in a co-op action setting to take down a brainwashed Justice League. Elements of the gameplay look fun and exciting. There may be enough variety and fun sequences to outweigh the live service bummers that are part of a system, as long as Rocksteady makes sure that the launch goes smoothly. The game is releasing on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A new release date has not yet been announced.
