After the wild success of sister project Elden Ring in 2022, Armored Core‘s latest installment Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon had many new sets of eyes on it leading up to release. FromSoftware’s most recent launch sees the player assembling and piloting their own mech, while taking on challenging enemies with an assortment of dynamic melee and ranged maneuvers to overcome.

The story of Armored Core VI is centered around the history of a mysterious substance being discovered on Rubicon 3, a remote planet in the game’s universe. The substance was expected to help advance humanity as a new energy source, but instead caused a catastrophe, engulfing the planet in flames and forming a “burning star system.” Decades later, the substance has re-emerged on Rubicon 3 and an independent mercenary (the player) gets caught in a struggle between warring factions over what should be done with it.

At the time of writing, Armored Core VI is currently rocking an 85/100 on OpenCritic with 91% of reviewers recommending the game. Over on Metacritic, it’s sitting at an 86/100 on PlayStation 5 (with 57 reviews), 87 on PC (with 30 reviews), and a 79 on Xbox (with 11 reviews); averaging an 84/100 between the three platforms. Armored Core VI is available now for PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.
