Spanish organization Team Heretics is set to acquire Misfits Gaming’s League of Legends European Championship (LEC) franchise spot for an estimated $45-$50M. This same time last year, former LEC team Schalke 04 sold their spot for an estimated $31.5M to Team BDS, making the Misfits move the second sale of a LEC spot since the league moved to its franchising model ahead of the 2019 season.

Alongside the popularity of League of Legends, the LEC has been praised for its production value, personalities, and league play, making it one of the most desirable esports leagues to be a part of. The initial application process was rigorous with only ten organizations (of what is believed to be close to 100 that applied) made the cut for the initial franchise spots priced around $10M per slot. With that number in mind, Schalke 04 made around a $21M profit from the sale of their spot in 2021 and Misfits turned a profit of over $35M selling their spot just one year later. Could we see more spots go up for sale in the near future…only time will tell. More
