One of the best-selling games of all time is back again with a next-gen update that’s free for all players who own it. That’s right, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt just got an update bringing it to the newest generation of consoles and adding even more new content. Originally released in May of 2015, The Witcher 3 is considered one of the best RPGs of all time and this update only further cements that place in history.  Gamers who already own The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt can download a free update on their next gen consoles. The PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions will also receive an update minus the graphical enhancements that are only part of the next-gen versions.

The biggest and most obvious update here is, of course, the visuals. The game has been given a 4K texture update to make Geralt, monsters, NPCs, the environment, and the sky all look even better than they already did. No next-gen update would be complete without raytracing so of course this update adds it to some of the world lighting. There’s even a patch to fix some various visual bugs that is fittingly named the “Nitpicker’s Patch” from a popular community mod.

Despite the game coming out over 7 years ago, there’s some new content available in this update as well. The game now includes a nod to the Netflix series with skins for Dandelion (aka Jasker) and the Nilfgaardian Army. On top of that, players can complete a new side quest to earn armor and weapons that are based on armor and weapons from the series. Speaking of things to earn, players can link their games to their GOG account to enable cross-saving to play on whatever platform they want. Doing this also unlocks some different armors and swords you can receive at the Royal Palace in Vizima.

Some games just seem to stand the test of time and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt seems to be one of those games. Over 7 years later, the game has a new next gen update with new content to boot. It’s the perfect way for long-time fans to revisit their favorite moments of the game as well as the perfect way for anyone who has yet to dive in as Geralt of Rivia to experience this masterpiece.
