With a runtime just shy of twenty minutes long, this week’s Pokémon Presents was jam-packed with a plethora of information and new reveals. While the main focus was on upcoming Pokémon titles Scarlet and Violet, a number of other games from Pokémon Unite to Pokémon Café also made appearances. We know you want to catch all the news, so let’s dive in!
World Championships: This year’s Pokémon World Championships will be held in London later this month on August 18th through the 21st. Alongside the on-going roster of Pokémon games to compete in, this year’s event will also be welcoming two new categories with Pokémon Go and Pokémon Unite joining the fray for the first time. An electrifying Pikachu trophy awaits this year’s winners!
Pokémon Unite: In addition to being confirmed as a new event at this year’s Pokémon World Championships, new playable Pokémon, features, and events were also confirmed for Unite. The latest addition to the roster, Buzzwole, joined following the presentation and brought with him an ultimate move “Beast Boost” which temporarily boosts movement and attack speed to create a deadly onslaught of powerful potential. Quick battle type “Pikachu Party”, which sees everyone playing as a Pikachu on a Pikachu-themed map with Pikachu replacing the neutral monsters, was also announced for this month, in what should be a shockingly good time!
Pokémon Go: AR phenomenon Pokémon Go continues to trek on with new content added regularly – this time confirming Ultra Beasts as Raid Bosses at an upcoming Pokémon Go Fest event to be held worldwide on August 27th. Additionally, Mythical Pokémon Shaymin will be rewarded for completing the challenges. Last, but not least a new 15 minute “daily adventure incense” will be added each day to players’ inventories to help attract Pokémon to their location.
Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: The main event of this week’s presentation was introducing future players to the Paldea region, the next stop for Pokémon trainers in the mainline series. Alongside a look at landscapes from busy towns to rural cities, players also got a sneak peek at a handful of new Pokémon and characters that will accompany them on their journey. Scarlet and Violet will offer the standard eight gym route, but with some significant twists: (1) the game is open world, so the player will have more options of the path they decide to forge forward on, (2) the game allows for up to four player co-op, and (3) the cover art legendaries are also your method of transportation. But wait there’s more…last, but far from least, Pokémon can now “terastallize” gaining new crystallized forms and types during their transformation. An exciting journey awaits, trainers! Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are set to launch in November 2022.
